From school desks to practice

Roan is in the third class of Yuverta College in Montfoort, where he is studying vmbo. For him, this year is all about making choices for his further education. And what better way to do that than through an internship? In early September 2024, Roan started his internship at Foodera Technologies, an opportunity he grasped with both hands.

,,I had already spent a day at Foodera Technologies,” says Roan, ,,I already knew then that welding and tinkering are really my thing. When my mother also told me what great work Foodera Technologies does, the choice was quickly made.”

Work with a smile

Work with a smile- As a trainee, Roan is fully involved in the production process. Although his age does not yet allow him to do everything, he gets plenty of opportunities to develop his skills. ,,I help out in the pre-processing area,” he explains. ‘There, I assemble pipe brackets, grind stainless steel clean, drill and tap small plates and assemble bolts. In the final assembly, these parts are used again.”

What Roan enjoys most? ,,Welding! I am now mainly welding 2 to 5 millimetre thick plates with TIG. I’m also working on MAG welding, but that can only be done with thicker metal. I hope to do more with welding later in my career.” And of course the internship classic is not missing: ,,Oh yes, and I sometimes eat Foodera Technologies chips!’ he says, while laughing.

Good guidance

Good guidance and a nice atmosphere- At Foodera Technologies, guidance is key, something Roan appreciates enormously. ,,The teamleaders make sure I have work and my colleagues help me if something doesn’t work out,” he says. ,,They also give me tips on what training I can do best later on. And that’s nice, because in that way I learn new things all the time.”

The working atmosphere also gets kudos. ,,During our breaks we have a nice chat about what we do in our spare time and there is a lot of laughter. The working hours are nice and there is a good atmosphere.”

Growing at Foodera Technologies

Growing at Foodera Technologies During his internship, Roan not only learned technical skills, such as welding and working with different materials, but also personal skills. ,,I learned how to explain things properly and how important safety rules are. In addition, I was able to take a look at the purchasing department and see how machines are transported. Super interesting!”

Of course, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes the work can be repetitive. ,,Tapping plates for a long time can get a bit boring,” Roan admits. ,,But that’s part of the job.”

Clear goals- Roan already knows what he wants to do later: ,,Something in the metal industry. Preferably at Foodera Technologies! My dream is to eventually grow into a team leader. I am very helpful and sociable. And I can then use all those qualities nicely.”

We might see you soon

With such clear goals and an enthusiasm that is contagious, we have no doubt that Roan has a bright future ahead of him. His story shows that an internship is not only instructive, but can also be a springboard to a shining career.
